Government subsidy for heat pumps in high demand

And advisory body has said the UK government that it risks running out of subsidies for heat pumps due to increase demand.

The Telegraph reported this week that the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU) has warned vouchers for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme could run out by 2025.

The UK government had allocated £450M to the project, but this may now not be enough. The price of heat pumps has come down rapidly as a price war between providers has driven down installation costs.

Monthly installations of heat pumps have grown by 10pc month on month according to figures published by the Department for Energy, Security and Net Zero,.

However the UK is still lagging behind it’s European neighbours. In Norway there were almost 25,000 installations per 100,000 people last year, compared to the 412 in the UK.
